The following is a VERY long posting. It is not only
my February 2002 President's Message, but I would like
it to stand as my report for the annual meeting. It
also contains the agenda for the meeting.
Additionally, I would like to remind all those
officers and BOD members that have a report due at the
annual meeting, to be sure and get it to Carl or Dora
to present ASAP.
I am also attaching the Message/report/agenda aS a
Word document. If any of you want it in another
format, please let me know ASAP.
MESSAGE:
International Costumers' Guild
President's Message
February 1, 2002
Hello everyone:
I have enclosed the Agenda for this month=s Annual
Meeting in Australia. Unfortunately, I won=t be
attending. However, Carl Mami, our present Vice
President will be standing in for me.
First, I would like to talk about the past year of my
presidency. Well, as I suspected, I would not be able
to get everything done that I wanted to. However,
that doesn=t daunt me at all. I never expect to get
everything done that I have on my plate because it
would not be possible for anyone to do so. There have
been disappointments, such as the CGUK leaving the
ICG. I do believe, though, I tried my hardest to make
the situation work and it just wasn=t possible.
Since, that was off my plate, I=ve been able to get
other things done. Also unfortunately, we had the
terrible occurrence on September 11. This seemed to
put a stop to all non-essential functioning for many
of us and we=re just starting to get back on our feet
(me included). Finally, it has been a very short
year. I=ve had three months less than the average
term in office which has really put a crimp in things.
Now that I=ve listed some of the down things of my
year, I=d like to list some of the positives of what=s
occurred over the past nine months. First, I was able
to make arrangements for a special discount with a
publisher for ICG members. This was the first of what
I hope to be many direct perks of being a member of
the ICG. Additionally, I was able to lower the
printing costs for our CQ. Not by much on each issue
(I believe the figure was 50 cents), but it=s a start.
Now for a few announcements of some other good things.
For the last several months, Bruce and Nora Mai, Carl
Mami, and I have been discussing melding the ICG
annual into an issue of the CQ. When approached, the
Mais thought it was a win/win situation as did Carl.
The Mais have agreed to produce the third quarter
issue of the CQ as the ICG Annual issue. The purpose
of this Ajoining of forces@ was being we felt there
was a split in focus having two ICG publications. As
everyone knows, the CQ has a troubled history and now
with it nearing the point of being fully on track
(thanks to Carl Mami and Dora Buck), we didn=t want to
water down our energies. We felt unifying the
publications could only strengthen them. So our
chapter presidents can expect to be contacted by the
Mais within the next month or so asking for
information about their chapters. I hope that
everyone cooperates since this is for all us. The
only issue that remains is this. If you want a copy
of the annual, you will have to subscribe to the CQ.
We hope this gives more people motivation for becoming
part of the CQ family.
I would also like to announce that the ICG webmaster
position will be changing hands. For the past several
years, John O=Halloran has been our webmaster. He is
the one who designed Costume.Org and has maintained
it. As with many of us though, after many years of
dedicated service to the website, John is ready to
move on to something else. As difficult as it is to
hand off his Ababy,@ John has decided it=s time to
pass the torch. In light of that, Jeffrey Morris of
the SLUTS has agreed to take over the duties of
webmaster. Jeffrey is experienced in this area and
John himself said he=s comfortable and has confidence
in Jeff taking over. I think Jeff is going to do a
great job and it will be exciting to see what new
visions Jeff has for our website. He will be taking
over all duties from John including maintaining and
monitoring the D lists. He will begin full force
after February (he has to get out his last SLUTS
newsletter first).
As you will see by the attached Agenda, we have a
slate of candidates for the ICG officer positions.
You will note I have decided to run for office again.
Like I said above, there are many things I=d still
like to do for the ICG and I can best serve you all as
president. I hope you will all agree.
On a final note. As you all know, the annual meeting
is not only taking place very early this year, but
very far away. As a result, many of you are not going
to be attending the annual meeting. It is therefore
VERY important that you send in your proxies to
someone who is going. If you need a proxy form please
go to our website, Costume.org. There should be an
updated version there (don=t forget to refresh if you
haven=t been on the site in awhile). If you don=t
have web access, your chapter president or ICG
representative has a copy. I know this because I sent
one to all of them several days ago.
Sincerely,
Darla W. Kruger, President International Costumers'
Guild, Inc.
