The comic strip for SF fen is "Foxtrot." Lots of LOTR, Star Wars, computer,
etc references.

I have a quiet campaign going to get Mr. Amend invited as a local con guest.

Betsy,
I was a strong and vocal supporter of the idea of a newsletter. I have
been negligent. THANK YOU !!
The problems of the ICG are extensive. But I think that the newsletter is
a significant step in the right direction.
If the chapters all actually report in to Sharon, that would be
another. You cannot have an organization that spends any money without
dues paying members. If the chapters do not send the money they have
collected to the Treasurer, the organization cannot function.

Yes, he does clean up well. That shot was at my son's wedding, in the
Graceland Chapel in Las Vegas, where Carl also served as videographer! The
outfit Carl's wearing is known as his Sincere Suit, as it tends to impress
new relatives.

We got a call from Marian Clark in Denver tonight. Daren has been in a car
accident and is in the hospital with a broken leg (tib-fib compound
fracture, left leg). We then talked to him tonight. He says he's
otherwise OK, he will have surgery tomorrow to repair the fractures. Don't
know when he will be out of hospital, but will have a cast for at least 6
weeks.

The accident wasn't his fault, AFAWK, the other guy made a left turn in
front of him (and was cited for failure to yield). Daren says the only
thing he remembers was approaching the intersection, then the next thing
was smelling sulfur and seeing smoke from the air bag. His car was
(probably) totaled, they had to cut and pry metal to get him out. This was
the new car he just got this past summer.

He was a bit fuzzy from the pain meds when we talked to him, but he said
that he still plans to be at CC21, though maybe only to watch and teach.

If anyone needs his address, let us know and we'll forward privately.

Be sure to give your reasons for nominating her, as I'm told that's what
the people who vote for the award use to give them information/guidance
in making their choice.

Thanks:) Yeah, it's certainly one of my favs of all I've made:) btw
just deleted my entire site to upload all new piccies... oh no...
just realised I goofed up... my file of one of these piccies is
corrupted and I wiped the one from my site! Ah well it is on the
alleycatscratch site so I'll just go copy from there, or rezise the
full scanned image...

> Love to see costumes in use/in action, too.

I have a new toy for Xmas, a digital camera:) So I've got new piccies
of old cossies taken to at least fill in blank pages;) And in time
I'm going to work out how to get the best action shots with it:)

> I have a question, though, as a relatively new costumer--

Well the dress is also very long and it did drag on the ground but
the fabric is super easy to clean:) It's microcrepe and I was able to
wash out just in the bathroom there the footprint when I stepped on
it in the mud;)

I have a bias tape on the inside that's able to be esily unpicked if
necessary.. but it hasn't prooved to be so far;)

For my big german ren gown I'll simply be not wearing it outdoors,
and the short time it will touch the ground getting to and from
places won't really matter:)

But I would face a train to be worn outsidewith something maybe
scotchguarded or otherwise dirt/water repellant in a weight suitable
to the fabric. So that would change depending on the gown:)

Or is it
> just the type fabric I used?

You should be able to get the dirt out by soaking the hem in Napisan.
It has been able to get out decades old rust stains from a purse I
bought, so this should be no problem:)

I'm guessing the lace will be man made fibre one for that price so
this should work:) Bleach would probably be fine for it too, but
bleach does really depend on the fibre and the colour;) Napisan works
on colours:) Or there must be some other stain remover that you can
just leave it soaking in?

Oh, I did wash the mud out with cold water... I think that helps too?
But others who are more knowelable than me should be around this
list:)

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I'll see how I can apply that, though the lace is unattached and floats over
the white lining-- maybe if I add an additional inch (2-3 in back) to the
lining it'll help the lace. And I think I have something pretty plastic-y to
line inside the lining. Plus, I'll just have to remember to pick it up
walking major distances, and only let it sweep in the lobby, etc.

One method to keep a train (relatively) clean is what I employed a few
years ago on the "Lady of Rainbows" dress (which was made of sky-blue
velvet) was to hand-sew a fairly heavy lining onto the bottom of the
train (I think I used a heavy satin that I had left over from the
sleeves). It did get dirty very fast, but I could take it off and clean
it, or just not worry about it. Another advantage was that using a
fairly heavy fabric helped keep the train from bunching up.

Yours in costuming, Lisa A.

When I was President, I tried to assemble a brief paragraph on each nominee
that I included with the ballots I sent to the Board. Sometimes this was
not real easy to do, so I am quite confident that whoever prepares the 2003
ballot would very much appreciate statements supporting the nomination.

Administrivia: About the ICG mailing lists.

Due to a crash of the Best List Server in early October, the ICG mailing lists were moved to eGroups. When the server came back up, the membership decided it liked eGroups. When eGroups was merged into Yahoo Groups, we went along for the ride.

The ICG has 2 mailing lists, the ICG General Discussion (ICG-D)list and the ICG Board of Directors (ICG-BOD) list.

ICG-D is intended for, but not limited to, the general membership of the International Costumers' Guild.

ICG-BOD is intended for, and limited to, the members of the International Costumers' Guild Board of Directors as defined by Article 5, Section 1 of the ICG Bylaws and those non-voting parties as invited by the BOD to provide commentary.

To post to the lists use the following addresses:

ICG-D@yahoogroups.com for general membership discussion.
ICG-BOD@yahoogroups.com for officer level discussions.

To subscribe, please see the Subscription HowTo contained
in subscribe.txt for instructions.

Notes:

Policies of the ICG-D and ICG-BOD mailing list:

1) No Flaming. The moderator will issue one and only one warning.

If the flaming continues, all parties flaming will be unsubscribed.

2) No detailed discussion of the actual making of costumes.

"Huh?" you say. When this list was set up, its intention was
not to draw traffic away other costuming lists such as
H-Costume, F-Costume, Vintage, etc, but to promote discussion
about the ICG and costuming in general between members.

Detailed discussions will be encouraged to move or cross post
to one of the other lists.

3) If someone directly requests the moderator to subscribe/unsubscribe
them they will be sent this message and the moderator will
subsingle/unsubscribe them.

4) No SPAM! Suspect addresses in subscription requests will have their
identity verified.

5) No Chain Letters. I know some of them pull at your heart strings
or have you fearing for your hard drive, but most are inaccurate
(at best), out-of-date or fake (at worst).

6) Severely off-topic discussions or violations of these few policies
will flagged by a message from the moderator with [RIP]* in the
subject line. Further discussion after the posting of the [RIP]
message should be taken to private eMail.

7) No viral advertising! Do not send messages with advertisements
attached. It is bad enough we have to put up with the ads attached
to the free eMail accounts, without members taking the conscious act
of attaching advertising. I consider these one step above SPAM.

8) Subscribers whose accounts bounces mail will be deactivated.

"If messages sent to a member are consistently returned"
will deactivate your account from stop sending the mailing
list to your address.

For freemail account holders (Hotmail, Juno, Excitemail, etc)
Please be aware you account has limitations and will bounce

Quoting

**** Do it ****

Please quote or paraphrase the original message you are replying to.

I often play "catch-up", reading a large number of messages in one
sitting, but I still occasionally say "Huh?" to someone's one
line reply to message posted days ago.

Think about how confused someone who has hours or even days
between reading messages can get.

**** Don't do too much of it ****

When you quote, please do some trimming.

* Delete the list sig
* Delete the persons sig
* Delete details of an event you are commenting on
* Trim down the original post to just what you are replying to.
There is no need to quote 3 paragraphs of message,
when you are addressing something in just one of them,
or just to say: "I agree." or "Me too."

**** Be clear about seperating your comments ****

* Most of the time a blank line is sufficent.
* If you wish to highlight your text, use a
different character then your chosen
quoting character.
ie: Don't hightlight with ">" when
the original is marked with ">" as well.

Please give Daren my sincere thoughts. I know exactly what is involved
in the surgery he has to have (Of course I'd need Xrays to know exactly
what rod and screws he's going to have placed). The only comfort is that
orthopedics these days is pretty advanced and his chances of a great
outcome are excellent. Nonetheless he has to amke it through the surgery
and being casted and uncomfortable.

Tell him to take it easy.

Speaking as Parliamentarian, It would be technically possible to make a
motion to suspend the rules to retroactively award a 2002 Lifetime
Achievement Award. This might be difficult to do before the CC21 meeting,
though there are ways around that.

Pierre, I like the way you think!

My concerns:

1. When/where would the "late" award be presented?
2. How would you keep from having the current year's
winner from feeling that their thunder had been stolen?
I'd like to think our egos are all secure enough to handle
that, but then there's reality.

costumes and hairstyles are great. The stagings and sets are excellent. As
my husband said coming out of the theater, "all bets are off for the
Oscars". See it when it gets to your local theatre. We were lucky that we
have enough Oscar voters in town to be one of the 25 first cities that it
opened in, but it should be in general release later this month. Go!!!

It could be awarded as a surprise on Sunday. Traditionally, the LAA is
awarded on Saturday, during the awards.

Personally, I like it, and it could be done (conceivably) if we have
more than one recipient nominated. There would, of course, need to be
special mention prior to the selection, so you could identify who got
which award. Or we could award the previous year's recipient based on
the first and second runner up for this year's nominations...

Just my $0.02.

Happy New Year!

Considering the 2002 Costume-Con (where the award is typically presented)
was in Australia, and very poorly attended, I think it could be used as an
excuse to hand out the 2002 and 2003 awards concurrently.

In reply to your suggestion of awarding two awards
First it would require board members to take time to vote for a temporary
change to the standing rules which would take away from the item that need
to be decided before the annual meeting.
Second there is no rule that states an award must be given but does state
only one award per year
Third it would require a change to the budget again more votes from the
board before other business
Fourth the lime light is special (I know) and sharing it is unfair to the
person receiving it.
Last that space in there may just serve as a reminder that we have a job to
do and if the space offends us then maybe we will never forget again

And what I consider the most important reason,

I don't think anyone would like to be the recipient of the award given just

Happy New Year! Time to start thinking about what YOU want to do for the
Future Fashion Show. Here are some current show stats to get you moving.

1.You now have only 3.5 months to get it done. One of the people who signed
up back in November is almost done (okay, she's an over-achiever - but you
can't complain about lack of time on this one, you lost 2 months all by your
self.)
2. There are 24 designs reserved, that leaves 57 other fabulous choices.
3. Of that 24:
14 are being made by members of the SLCG (people that I can directly
harass, but I only used strong-arm techniques on 2)
4 are by other Midwesterners (That makes a total of 18 Midwest entries)
5 are by people I know are on the East Coast
1 is from Canada
7 have never participated before

So I have no reservations from the West Coast and not as many as I'd like
from the East. Pierre & Sandy inform me that they have mailed over 100
folios.
Hmmmm.....
Is this thing on?

Toni my dear, he hasn't, nor has Michael Gambon, as has also been
reported.

Hi Julie!

Well, if no one's been officially chosen to play Dumbledore, my nominations
are:

Chris Lee (although he'd probably scare Snape)
Michael Caine
Peter O'Toole
Sean Connery (Hogwarts IS in Scotland afterall)
John Neville
No Award

They did do "Cellophane" and the gentleman who did it was outstanding.
Would like to have seen your version, though.

A part I always wanted to play but no voice and no acting talent seem to get
in the way. Minor problems but problems none the less
The language in the play was not real bad but movies have changed since West
Side Story so it most likely not a problem
Did they add any new songs?
Just got a new CD of Hair and several songs written but not in the play were
on it. I have tried to see where these song would go but no luck
They are bringing back Man of LaMancha back to Broadway I hope to get to see
it.
