It can't be helped. If it arrives in the next day or so, it should
clear. I'll tell Barb to be on the lookout for it, and to deposit it

To all:

We need another on-stage ninja for our Torcon group. Murphy and Life are
conspiring against us. Size and gender don't matter. Needed are the
ability to make or have made (in the short time left) a shirt (sort-of
pirate style), vest, and ascot. Also needed are black trousers and black
dress shoes or boots (no sneakers). The pattern for the made items is
McCall's 4092. We will get you the fabric.

ARISIA in Boston has evening panels, as well as filking, 24 hr. movies,
dance/masquerade, a dealer's row that chooses on its own when to close,
parties, etc. The art show is open in the evening on Friday, I believe,
and the dealer's room runs to 7:30pm or 8pm, if I recall correctly

I just got this on my Costume-Con account, and thought I'd pass it

her email addy and phone numbers.

If you're interested or able to help, please contact me and I'll pass on

Hello!

Great site. I am in the process of helping the Washington National
Cathedral revamp the costumes for their annual Christmas Pageant. I am
looking for donations from material & craft sources to rebuild the
costumes
and props. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Folio...good news and bad news
Gentlebeings:

We're into the good news, bad news area. I sat down with pad and paper today, plus a list of songs, and some doll patterns to trace.
On the good side, I've got fifteen designs. The bad side is that I can't draw them. I tried. I traced the bodies, but I can't draw the clothing. I can't figure out how to layer a drawing (shirt over top of trousers for example; two layer skirts). I just can't do it. No way in hell. I can describe what I have in mind. I can go into great detail, but I can't draw them; not even a very bad sketch. This is most likely why I seldom make patterns for dolls' clothes; I either go abstract, or wing it.
So, I really don't think that I'm going to be able to send anything in. This happened before. One of the special catagories was to dress things in ways that they weren't meant to be. I'm explaining this poorly, I know, but to give you and example I had ideas for doing Star Wars (first movie) as a Shirley Temple movie, with Liea in crinolines and tap shoes, and dancing storm troopers, with Obi Wan as the tap dancing butler. I had all the designs, but I couldn't draw them. I had twelve designs for regular entries that year, but I couldn't sketch them, and a couple of hours later they were gone.
Anyway, unless I suddenly come up with an idea to get them down on paper, that's it.

Peace

If you think it comes in 4 flavors, your lack imagination. Most Kringle
bakeries will do at least a dozen.

The Folio is a *design* contest, not a drawing contest.

If you can describe them, then I suggest you send the descriptions in.

Do not cop out and admit defeat. Challenge our judges to judge your
pure design, with or without an accompanying drawing.

Now there is an idea for next year and beyond a contest, you create a design
with only words and some one else makes it without a picture to guide them.

And the penny drops. I remember a making kringles back in Niagara
Falls. We had a cookbook with instructions for one. It was rather like a
sweet bread; similiar in some ways to coffee cake. I never actually ate
them because even before the dibeties I was never fond of sweet foods...just
pop. I do remember being hasseled because I used cinnimon instead of
nutmeg, but people ate it, and we didn't have nutmeg in the house. I used
the cinnimon for the killer cinnimon rolls that I used to make. My teeth
hurt just thinking about those things.

That had better be "send them with someone" because as with consigning

good chance of sending kringles and ending up with pancakes...or crumbs.

If you send them they will show up. I promise (cross my heart) that I will
not open a single one till I get to Toronto. Okay maybe I should open one
just to make sure they got here safely. Maybe I should open all of them and
decorate them in eatable glitz and glitter, after all they are going to the
COSTUMER'S SUITE. They should be fashionably decked out.

What do you think????

flavors. The only sad thing about the ones that get shipped is that some of
the best flavors are not made by the companies that ship Kringle.

Hi,

my husband and I saw POC today. Fun film, don't even look for historical accuracy. In fact what it reminded me of most was "The Crimson Pirate" with Burt Lancaster just more special effects.

I'd be happy to be on programm items for CC22. I do most forms of embroidery
and can discuss or demo them (I've done a crewel workshop at a past CC). I've
also run a worldcon masquerade and done the main ballrom schedulong for a CC.
I'm currently committed to someone's group for the SF masquerade and may
possibly be in the historical.

I agree that Pirates of the Caribbean was good. I saw it with a fair
amount of trepidation because some Disney ride films are so *bad*
(thinking about Country Bears and Tower of Terror) -
and with the recent spate of films showing all their good moments in
the previews, it's hard to imagine that there could be more to the
movie then pirates and skeletons sword-fighting.

There was also attention to detail to include scenarios from the
Disney World PoC attraction into the movie.

Old pirate favorite of mine ... Errol Flynn in Captain Blood.

I'm not sure that I would wish that on Mr. Snape.

Actually, I think we're going to find out something about him in the last book
that will greatly humanize him and give us all a better understanding of him.
In fact, we get a glimmer of understanding him in the latest book (No, I won't
spoil it.), so we might see something in the sixth book that reveals a bit more
about Mr. Snape.

I fully expect that by the end of the series, Potter and Snape will be very
close, and Harry will fully trust him.

You all should know better than to judge someone by what they wear. ;-)

Which "Mrs. Danvers" are you thinking of?

Judith Anderson was pretty good in the Hitchcock adaptation, but Diana
Rigg is probably the best Danvers I've seen...

After a great deal of coordination, confirmation, confusion, and ftp'ing, I'm
pleased to announce (finally) a new section to the ICG Home Page.

With the assistance of Carl Mami, Pierre Pettinger and Charles Mohapel, we've
added the ConJose Masquerade Photo Gallery. I'd meant to get this up long
before now, but there were a number of unforeseen complications that bogged
things down. Hopefully this is the first of a number of galleries to be added.

Go out to the main page at www.costume.org and look for the ConJose Photo
Gallery link on the left side, or visit the news page.

We put together a group of 13 people in costume (including several original
crewpeople from the "Cherry Jubilee" from 1986-88, LOL!) and went to see
Pirates of the Caribbean at our local theater the Saturday after it opened.
The theater manager was so impressed by our motley crew that she gave us
discounted admissions on the spot (she wanted to comp us in, but she can't
do that on weekends). We loved the movie (hope to see it a couple more
times in theaters before it goes away), and had a good time doing an outing
in costume as well. The theater wants us to come to other movies in
costume, too (good publicity for them), so we'll probably make our next
LOTR outing to this theater instead of the big fancy one up by Pittsburgh
that could care less (even when one of our people came to Two Towers
completely made up as an Orc!).

Will have pics for show-and-tell after we get our film developed--still
have to shoot off the rest of the roll.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I used to do this kind of group
costume outing with the STAR TREK club I belonged to in the 70's (as at
least one other list member can attest), and I enjoy doing it just as much
or more than doing competition pieces. All the fun, and none of the stress.
And, as a bonus, you get to "freak the mundanes."

My SCA group in central Iowa used to do quite a bit of this in the 80's. It
worked well for Ladyhawk and when the Memorial Union ran Monty Python and the
Holy Grail. Being without armor, it fell to me to clack the coconuts.

Harry Potter Versus Megalon - Professor Potter and Lord Voldemort are changed
into giant radioactive creatures during a magical duel. Half of Tokyo is
destroyed while Ron and Hermione are starting to fall in love. A badly
wounded Lord Voldemort disappears into the ocean while still in creature form.
