I know that negative responses are not required (should we consider that?) but I have no objection to the proposed new chapter. How will be mentor the new chapter?  Make sure they get the basic deadlines and check-ins right in the beginning?--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a thought about that if y’all decide you want to use it...Create an ombudsman position.  Their job would basically be working with new chapters to help them get their documents together, understand what they need to send each month, check in with them to get reports if they’re late, etc.But specifically only working with new chapters.  That way the corresponding Secretary can handle regular business.Cordially,

This is what I was asking for weeks ago. I would love to see a customer service position to help new chapters. Merrily

It got lost in the shuffle, lol, but I actually made the suggestion when the question was asked in Slack.  I think it would be very helpful.Cordially,

Mera, I see you did request an Ombudsman (overseer or regulator) the same day I suggested a customer service position. Similar but with different connotations. A new chapter regulator seems heavy handed. Someone checking in and on call to assist seems more welcoming to a group of adults which want to join ICG.

Very good point.  I did not mean to insinuate they would be a regulator but can see now that you’ve pointed it out how that language could be interpreted.  If the position is created it would be a great idea to detail the duties as customer service for chapters.  Thanks! Cordially,

Word definitions:ombudsman - An official appointed to investigate individuals' complaints against a company or organization, especially a public authority. This is definitely not what we're trying to do to support new chapters. In hotel parlance they have a Concierge who helps guests with whatever they needIn small towns there used to be a Welcome Wagon person/comittee who stopped by and helped new residents.A Mentor (which could be an appointment, or a job shared among the different so everyone gets to help) is someone who gives help or training over a period of time, esp Help or advice related to a job.Might one of these be better? Customer Service implies they are buying something from us.

Hopefully they are already sold on ICG, but some retention may be needed to sell them on stayingSome other possibilities: Member Services? Chapter Services?(Merrily)

Speaking as myself now, I like the idea of "chapter services" as I personally would like to see more support for struggling chapters as well as mentors.

I’m rather surprised we don’t have something of the sort. All the documentation on the website is great but not really helpful.  Of course, it’s why I always tell potential chapters I work with they can call on me if they need anything. Of course I remember there was some solid conversation back in March about helping with onboarding and retention. I know Mera has been working very hard on not only growing membership, but getting us discounts and other things that would actually benefit our membership.  I really have liked the discussions we’ve had for growing our benefits as well as offering help for things new chapters struggle with like how to find places to meet - which is a HUGE problem for many groups, not just ours.

An Ombundsman would have been very helpful with the recent spat of problems.  But we clearly need to think towards adopting anti-harassment and non-discrimination policies as well as a code of conduct.  Ombundsman do protect people’s rights, represents public interest, and act as a liaison officer. I could see an Ombundsman position actually being useful to be a go between between ICG and chapters, though that is part of what a BOD rep should be doing, and being someone that can handle potential problems like we recently saw. We definitely need someone who can handle the PR problems we currently have.

How about chapter envoy?

Membership Coordinator is a common title. Folks would know what to expect from that position. And it sounds nice.Merrily

Corresponding secretary's note: I have reached out to Elaine to see if she needs assistance getting on Slack.

Jacalyn Boggs  2 years ago
Excellent.  I am on the phone with her. She is technically in our slack team, but it's getting her to remember how to do it. I'll do the best I can over the phone.

Huzzah! Elaine M has posted her vote in the actual poll!  I showed her around a bit. She knows how to reach me for more help and so I think we'll be able to get her around easier now.

The objection period is now ended.  The poll to vote will appear momentarily in Slack.  Once the poll is created you may vote yes, no, or abstain.  You may choose to send your vote to the corresponding Secretary instead and she will add the votes in the comments on the poll by chapter rep and “yes” “no” or “abstain”.   You have until Sunday, 11/10/2019 at 6:51pm to vote.
