Please go to the ICG chapter page < http://www.costume.org/chapters/ >
and check to see if the information for your chapter's contact person is
up to date. Several chapters list folks who are no longer ICG members.

The Central Ohio and Gulf Coast chapters need to submit theirs.

I would like to thank the board for voting on the 2019 Budget. Polls closed before the new year and the resolution was passed with 16 in favor and 0 opposing. 9 abstained from voting, Please make a personal resolution this year to get your chapter's votes in! We'll see about using a less frustrating and more accessible method of voting in the future, I think.

Subject: ICG Elections 2019 (and a few other reminders)
Good afternoons!

I would like to remind everyone that Costume Con is coming and with it, our annual ICG Elections. All who are interested (including any current officers who are willing to serve again!) are invited to submit nominations.

Per our Standing Rules:
  1. Nominations for Officers of the Corporation shall be made in writing to the President of the Corporation at least 30 days in advance of the annual meeting. It is recommended that the President of the Corporation has served at least one term as a Chapter President, Chapter Representative, or as an ICG officer. [Adopted 2/15/1990, Amended 4/25/2012]
Nominations are due by February 22. Earlier is ok too!

Our fabulous Jeanine Swick has agreed to run for Treasurer again, and I'm willing to serve another year as President if you'll have me, though providing options for the ICG's constituents is never a bad thing!

Also, LAA nominations are due by January 22 so we have time for the actual vote! We have a couple nominations in already this year and I'm always happy to receive more. It's a pleasure to make the choice as fiendishly difficult as possible.

Happy New Year,
Marianne Pease
ICG President

It feels like this has been discussed for the past 3 years, but nothing has been done. I, personally, don't have a preference, so long as it can be linked to my email, because I already have too many sites to log in to and check.  I don't use Yahoo for anything *but* the ICG mailing lists anymore.  I don't check slack or whatever the other board set up was. I don't get email notifications from it, either, for whatever reason.

Whatever option is chosen, it needs to be universally useable and be user friendly, and a break needs to happen. There can't be a 'some here, some there' type of situation.

I have had a Slack account for a few years. I never use it. However, if we switch to it from Yahoogroups, I’ll do so.

I do agree that Yahoo has been getting worse in the way it functions. Auto messages no longer posting to the group. Difficulty in getting files to up load, this hits me more than anyone else. Long delays in messages posting or being received and the list goes on.

Hello--

I have had ATT/Yahoo Mail for years now, and the poll thing seems to be working fine for me, too, but that may be entirely because I have a paid-up ATT/Yahoo Mail account.  For those accessing from 'outside'  I will admit that I've never used the Costumers' Guild Slack account since the first week when I set it up, so I've no idea if it still works, but enough time has passed (with everything working for me on Yahoo) that I din't remember the details of getting back into Slack.  If you vote to eliminate Yahoo and do everything via Slack, I guess I'd like a little help getting back into that again.  I may have to re-apply or cancel the old Slack account and set up a new one; I don't know.

If you decide to make that change, make sure to give everybody a chance to vote on it!

Subject: Voting Platform Change Discussion
Yahoo has been giving people problems with voting -- not everyone, but enough to be a problem.  So, we'd like to consider using another voting method.  We need:

-- Board members to receive e-mail notification of a vote, including:
------ what is being voted on
------ link to where to cast vote
------ dates/times the vote opens and closes

We want to do this as automatically as possible.  We want a process or platform that will:

--- automatically send out notifications to the e-mail addresses of BoD members (and who should be in charge of sending these out? As Recording Secretary, I'm inclined to think it's me, but I think Jeanine has been doing it, especially for budget votes)
--- host a poll that multiple people can confirm the vote tally on

---------------------------------
Can Slack do this?

I'm looking at Slack now and I can go to the BoardofDirectors Channel on the left side.

In the upper middle I can see where I can 'View Member List', which I assume is just the people in the BoardofDiectors Channel.

Then I can see the list of people on in this channel on the far right side.

But that is as far as I get.  I don't see an obvious way to send an e-mail notification to everyone in the BoardofDiectors Channel. Nor do I see any way to set up a poll in Slack. However, I'm a pretty minimal user for Slack. Please, if someone is more experienced, let me know.  I can keep poking at Slack and google it a bit and maybe find the controls I'm not seeing.

One thing that has to be kept in mind. Not all members of the BoD have voting rights. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but voting is only open to the elected ICG officers and the one designated rep from each chapter.

It also must guarantee that all votes are secret ballot.

We might consider having a VotingBoardofDirectors channel on Slack where only voting BoD members have access.  Do we have any requirements for secret ballots?  I've never heard of any.  If we did that, then someone -- say the Recording Secretary -- could tally the results and everyone else could see it.

That would take care of of the voting/polling part.  But what about the notifications?

It looks like from this page, you can bcc e-mail from Slack:

But I haven't figure out how to bcc everyone on a specific channel.  So, there are possibilities.

Slack has a lot of optional add-ons and apps that can facilitate some of the things we want to do. There are many options we can use to make polls. Individuals can customize their personal settings to notify them if anyone says a key word like "Vote" or "Poll."

One thing that has to be kept in mind. Not all members of the BoD have voting rights. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but voting is only open to the elected ICG officers and the one designated rep from each chapter.

It also must guarantee that all votes are secret ballot.

Subject: Re: Voting Platform Change Discussion
Originally, on yahoo,  voting was not secret it was by posting to the group in general. I suggested that we make use of Yahoo's provision for polls (which does then make each vote secret) largely because it was easy to do. That has served us well - until yahoo became unstable.

I haven't seen anything about polling on slack, but people can privately message/vote an individual - say.. The recording secretary - who then totals the votes and reports.
