You can see the rules governing the LAA in Section 21 of the Standing Rules - http://costume.org/documents/ StandingRules.html but nominations may be submitted by individual ICG members as well as chapters as a whole.

There are many many worthy potential nominees who have been active in the community for at least ten years, been recognized for their skills, and who have made significant contributions in service to it, and I look forward to seeing all the excellent candidates.

Back in 2016, Silicon Web devoted the February issue of the Virtual Costumer to “The Art of the Masquerade.” It included articles on various aspects of running a masquerade, including one by Kevin Roche on Mastering the Art of Ceremony (or being an MC). I don’t recall that his article spoke to this hint, however.

A book, "Shadows from the Wall of Death" was written and compiled in 1874 by Dr. Robert M Kedzie, and contains 86 wallpaper samples with the telltale arsenic greens and blues. The National Library of Medicine has digitized their entire copy and it's a fascinating look at the colors and patterns used in America in the 1870s. Dr. Kedzie explains how the wallpapers made people sick and other details to advocate against producing and using arsenic wallpaper.

There were quite a few anachronisms in the film, and a few other goofs.

However, the film was amazing and moving. There were examples of different kinds of prejudice common in that era. While the wall calendar was showing the autumn of 1962, it was actually set around the time of the Bay of Pigs (you can hear bits of Kennedy's speech on the radio in the background), in May 1963.

The villain was entirely despicable on more levels than I care to list...and I don't want to throw spoilers.

The documentary "Hidden Killers of the Victorian Home"  has a section on arsenic found in paint, wallpaper and clothing. This can be found on YouTube.  They note that William Morris owned the largest arsenic mine in England.

Hello All:

We’ve got people. Now, what would *you* like to see as a costuming/cosplay related workshop at Worldcon76 in San Jose?

At Sasquan, the Fascinator Workshop was really popular. However, that’s a region known for steampunk. Does the same hold true for San Jose as well?

If you don’t tell me, I can’t make it happen or try to get it to happen. No guarantees, but I would like to have as many workshops as can be managed.

Please e-mail replies to mscip@worldcon76.org, not the costuming lists, please.

Hello All:

If you are an attending member of Worldcon76, and you would like to participate in Costume Programming, please:

1. Send an e-mail to mscip@worldcon76.org. We are being asked to have all official correspondence be from our Worldcon account, so if anything happens, they have a record of it.

2. If you have a spam limitator on your machine, please make sure that it can accept this e-ddress because that is where I will be sending you answers from.

3. I would really, really like it if people could do at least one workshop and maybe one panel.

4. Suggestions always help. “So-and-so is really good about teaching/topic X.” These suggestions help us come up with better programming.

Please realize that as much as I want everyone to be a participant, that might not be possible. Worldcons frequently get far more volunteers than can be used.

I would like to hear from some of the people who attended the first costume cons to send me a brief memory about what it was like and if you can dig out an old pic to attach to it, I'll be making brief posts about it on my CC36 website and facebook page. If we have the room, we'll include some of the memories in the program book.

Karen, I know you were there but who else was at that first costume con in San Diego?  Or even the second one in San Diego.

I remember meeting a lot of fellow costumers, only a couple of others working in fur. I leaned a number

In a nutshell, the answer to your question is yes. You can submit more than one nomination, there are no restriction in the rules that would prohibit it.

Thinking back to the first Costume Con, I only went because jan finder talked me into it.  I flew to New York and met jan and Peggy Kennedy and we flew on to San Diego.  Talking to Peggy made me nervous due to her reputation as an expert costumer.  She startled me by suddenly asking if I wanted to see pictures of her babies.  She then pulled out a small photo album full of pics of her cats.

I met lots of nice people and was amazed by the amount of information other costumers were willing to share on panels.  There had been experiences at other cons where costumers wanted to keep their research and methods secret.  The Fashion Folio show and the SF/F & Historical masquerade were an inspiration to a beginning costumer.  Jan and I entered the historical masquerade for fun and jan prepared the stage presentation.  This was before workmanship judging had been heard of and documentation was just a photo copy of your source pic.  We were surprised to win an award and I think it was partly due to the close resemblance to the well-known source photo.

I took a lot of photos on slide film for the purpose of showing them at afternoon room parties back at Toronto area cons.  This is how Caroline Julian and I met Jacqui Ward, Penny Lipman and many other local costumers.  Sometime we will go through our storage area and try to find out what happened to the many slides we have of early costume cons.

Jacqui Ward and I have had memberships, either attending or supporting, to every costume con to date.  I was able to attend then all up to and including CC17, when personal circumstances prevented me from attending any more until CC32 in Toronto.  Thanks to CC36 for adding a supporting membership option to their registration page.

Subject: Costume Con 36 Large Print Display Gofundme...
For the past four years, I have been embarking on a labor-of-love project of photographing portraits of costumers in costumes and also in their "civilian attire" on an old-school 4x5 large-format film camera. The project is called Transformation:Cosplay (which you can see samples on my website richardmanphoto.com) and it has received much needed financial support from numerous donors and organizations, including the ICG, and its various members (THANK YOU!!!).

My goal is to publish a book of the work this year, but before that, I have a more immediate goal: Costume Con 36 in San Diego (May 11-14) is givng me a room to showcase the photos and to continue the project. This is an exceptional generous offer by the concom.

My hope is that I can display at least 20+ prints in 24"x30", and a few at 44x50, and may be one or two at even larger sizes.

I can print the 24" prints myself and can get parger sizes printed at cost from benefactors. However, paper, inks, transporting them all cost money. So once again, I hope my friends and communities can rise up again. I know we all have expense and there are many worthwhile causes, but if you can spare a few dollars for this one, every single contribution helps, no matter how small.

Thank you.

Hello Costumers/Cosplayers: if you are planning to attend Costume Con 36, I have been embarking on a labor-of-love project of photographing portraits of costumers in costumes and also in their "civilian attire" on an old-school 4x5 large-format film camera. The project is called Transformation:Cosplay (which you can see samples on my website http://richardmanphoto.com)

Please email me (mailto:richard@richardmanphoto.com) if you want to participate in the project. Each session takes about 15 minutes. I will be at CC36 Friday and Sunday (Sat unfortunately is our daughter's graduation and I will need to fly in and out to attend).

THANK YOU.
